Skimz is a Singaporean aquarium product company that has been uniquely focused on innovative devices and niche applications, especially the use of zeolite in reef tanks. The Skimz Zeolite Auto Reactor is the latest model in this space which brings with it some features that have been just waiting to be developed through the use of a controllable DC pump.
Besides brands like Ecotech Marine, Reef Octopus and MaxSpect, very few companies have made a customize controlled for their DC pumps, opting instead to use OEM electronics that all have the same basic pared down functionality. There’s been a few custom controllers for protein skimmer applications but as far as we know Skimz is the first company to develop a controller specifically for a zeolite reactor.
Zeolite reactors are a highly specialized tool to promote the growth of bacteria on zeolite media to foster an environment of very low nutrients to achieve certain coloration, especially in SPS corals. The main ‘chore’ of a zeolite reactor is the daily or twice daily tumbling of the zeolite to dislodge bacterial film and expose new surfaces of the media for recolonization.
The new Automatic Zeolite Reactor from Skimz includes a DC pump which is wired to their new custom controller which allows for user-programmable tumbling of the media, simply through increased flow rate of the circulation pump. The flushing mode of Skimz’s new auto zeolite reactor is similar to a pulsing of a pump in wavemaker mode and you can clearly see in the video how the heavy media is lifted and dropped repeatedly to thoroughly tumble the zeolites.
This new function and automatic setting of the Skimz reactor ought to be a very welcome new addition to the world of zeloite users, and especially those who rely on this type of biological filtration to reach truly oligotrophic levels of nutrients. [Skimz]
New! Skimz Zeolite Auto Reactor ZAR127 and ZAR157Skimz Zeolite Auto Reactor (ZAR) is a replacement product of its predecessor the ZM manual series. It is powered by only 1 DC controllable pump and there are 2 pre-set flushing modes that will provide ease of operation for the usage of zeolite method. The ZAR reactor pipeless design helps to reduce its footprint which is perfect for hobbyists with limited space. Changing of media is also made easy with the split body design, an upper body for media and lower body for pump. Each body is provided with a flanged end for quick release.Features:• 2 Pre-Set Flushing Mode• 4 Pre-Set Flow Rates• Pause Mode for dosing bacteria• Double-Speed Button Skimz ZAR reactor consists of 4 pre-set flow rates for different volume of zeolite media:• ZAR127 – 1=0.3, 2=0.6, 3=0.9 and 4=1.2L media• ZAR157 – 1=0.9, 2=1.8, 3=2.7 and 4=3.5L mediaHobbyists can select the desired flow rate according to the amount of media they use and with a press of a button the flow rates can be double up for faster absorption of unwanted nutrient.Hobbyists can also choose either of the 2 Pre-Set Flushing Modes when operating the reactor. Each mode has different characteristic which is in line with the old twice a day and new automated hourly flushing method. • Mode 1: Twice a day flushing • Mode 2: Automated hourly flushingThe New Skimz ZAR reactor can fulfil the needs of both schools of old and new users will not have to worry about forgetting the twice daily jolting. It will reduce the amount of effort needed to maintain a zeolite system.Skimz ZAR127Pump: Skimz QP4.0Body diameter: 120mmPower consumption: max. 30WDimensions: L157 x D170 x H460mmZeolith media: up to 1.2LFor aquarium: up to 480LSkimz ZAR157Pump: Skimz QP7.0Body diameter: 150mmPower consumption: max. 60WDimensions: L190 x D207 x H520mmZeolith media: up to 3.5LFor aquarium: up to 1,400L#zeovit #zeolith #zeovitsystemwww.skimz.sg
