The Propeller Breeze 3 is a new lineup of fans specifically designed to keep aquarium water nice and cool. A number of aquarium companies have released a wide range of aquarium fans with cheap motors and plastic enclosures but GHL is a rare company to offer an aquarium fan with actual semblance of quality and performance.
Overheating of aquarium water, especially in reef tanks with all of our equipment, skimmers, pumps, and especially bright lights was once a very serious problem. Since the mass adoption of LEDs to replace very hot metal halide lamps, keeping aquarium water cool is much less of a pressing issue.
However there’s still plenty of scenarios, applications and especially hotter times of the year when it’s necessary to reduce aquarium temperature. Without a constant need to cool aquarium water it doesn’t exactly make sense to invest in a costly and energy intensive water chiller so this is where cooling fans like the GHL Propeller Breeze 3 are really useful.
The 12v brushless DC motors of the Propeller Breeze 3 are ultra quiet and hyper efficient, pushing around 35 cubic feet per minute and are wrapped in a powder coated aluminum enclosure available in either black or white, and five different sizes and prices. The smallest, two fan Propeller Breeze 3 pushes over 70 CFM and costs $89 while the largest 6-fan model pushes over 210 CFM and costs $169.
The Propeller Breeze 3 works fine on its own with the included power supply but it truly shines when connected to the Profilux aquarium controller. In this scenario the Profilux can vary the fan speed of the Propeller Breeze 3 to match the degree of cooling required, while also keeping fan speed and subsequent noise as low as possible. [GHL]
