The Maxspect Jump protein skimmer is a new, forthcoming entry level version of Maxspect’s award-winning Aeraqua Duo protein skimmer. Maxsepct developed such a novel and sophisticated foam fractionator that instead of developing the Aeraqua in a totally different size, it seems that instead they are opting to create a pared down version which is only slightly smaller.
The MJ-SK400 uses the same not-so-basic skimmer design as the Aeraqua Duo with an internally mounted dual impeller DC pump like the one used in the famous gyre pumps. The new Jump version of the Maxspect skimmer is very similar across the board to its predecessor but deviates in a couple important ways.
The first big difference, besides the slightly reduced size s the placement of the air intake which is integrated in the Aeraqua, but has a more typical placement in the Jump version, with air intakes right at the water inlet. The smaller size also allows this dual needle wheel skimmer to have a smaller footprint, being under 12 inches square.
Full specs like power rating, tanks sizing and air draw measurements are still being made and worked out while Maxspect puts the finishing touches on this new skimmer. It’s a very creative and original decision for Maxspect to not just make the Aeraqua Duo smaller but more entry-level with the MJ-SK400 which is expected to cost roughly half the price of the $650 Aeraqua duo when it is officially released later this year.
