While we all endure the pandemic, in-person events like tradeshows and small frag swaps even with the global distribution of vaccines are very risky. Because of this MACNA 2021 has been canceled and will move to a digital-only event to take place at the same time. In an emailed statement to Reef Builders about the change MASNA the nonprofit behind MACNA said:
“After feedback from many of our sponsors, exhibitors, speakers, and meeting with both venues, we have decided that MACNA in Atlanta, GA will be rescheduled to a later date, and all MACNA 2021 booths and tickets will have their credit transferred to an in-person MACNA 2022.”
Looking at the events originally scheduled for 2021 – major events like ReefStock, Interzoo, MACNA, and Global Pet have all been moved to 2022 due to the pandemic at the risk of COVID19. That being said Reefaplooza in Orlando, Florida is proceeding with a trial May event and eliminating speakers, and limiting the number of people that can enter at one time according to local guidelines. However, some local frag swaps are proceeding at the risk of local communities.
As of this writing, 2.6 million people have died globally because of the covid19 pandemic according to John Hopkins University.
