Jumpers are the bane of every rimless tank owner’s life and today we found another DIY solution aimed at preventing that. The quirkily named Hopstop is simply three two-inch wide polycarbonate strips that you attach to the front and sides of your tank using clamps. Regular offenders like Clownfish tend to jump out via the corners so a solution like this could help to prevent that without resorting to insect netting or a full cover. The strips are 480mm/19” long and attach to glass rims up to 12mm thick. If your tank is longer than 20” you simply buy more kits. The strips can be cut to size too.
Looking like a DIY Euro Brace this product won’t strengthen your tank like a true brace would and of course, there is still much surface available for saltwater fish to jump through, with Anthias and Flasher Wrasses being much less discriminate, middle of the tank kind of jumpers. If fitted properly however it may appear easier on the eye to some reefers. Although you may as well buy some glass strips, glue them with silicone, and get the benefit of less glass bowing and fewer drips while cleaning. and the hope that just maybe it will stop an escapee from your collection, mid-flight. Hopstop is available for around 14 euros/dollars.
