It was around a year ago we professed our admiration for Brine Shrimp Direct’s Cool Mysis and Cool Green flake foods for use around the Reef Builders Studio and today we reaffirm this enthusiasm. In the past 12 months our fish have consumed three pounds of each special recipe and when we resupplied this year we added another blend to the menu, BSD’s Cool Color flake food with color-enhancing ingredients such as astaxanthin.
Last year we espoused the monumental gulf in value between BSD’s cool flakes and other brands and we just had to share with you the large, solid flakes of our resupply which are simply unlike anything else available in the aquarium hobby. When we received this year’s three pound bulk bags of Cool Mysis, Cool Green and Cool Color we couldn’t help but notice the extra large and ‘intact’ flakes needed to be broken up a little bit before they could even fit into a wide mouth jar for everyday feeding.
Even after this slight deconstruction the flakes are large and sturdy enough to be handled with your fingers like pages of a book, and we have to direct them into some of the reef tank powerheads so they can be mechanical chopped to suit some of the smaller mouths of the tank. It’s easy to make large flakes smaller but impossible to make small ones larger and to this effect, BSD’s cool flakes create some of the least food dust of any food we’ve ever used, adding to it’s already incredible value that we described in detail more than a year ago.
