Reef Builders is sad to learn of the death of the editor, publisher, and CEO of Microcosm and Reef to Rainforest Media, James M. Lawrence. James presided over aquatic book publisher Microcosm since 1996, and Reef to Rainforest since 2008.
He was well known and much loved among the aquarium community, working with and commissioning many popular aquarium writers and industry experts across several decades.
Coral Magazine has released the following statement:
With deep sadness, we share that the editor and publisher of CORAL, James M. Lawrence of Shelburne, Vermont, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023, at the age of 76.
An accomplished writer, editor, publisher, and entrepreneur, he will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and so many professional colleagues across the globe.
He described himself as a “mere self-taught, amateur marine aquarist” who was proud to have been involved with some 50-plus marine aquarium books, calendar titles, and many hundreds of CORAL magazine articles.
