A man has been charged with Cruelty to Animals after pouring both Bleach and Vinegar into a fish tank during a domestic dispute. Police responded to a home disturbance in Warren, Ohio, to find shirtless 60-year-old Cornell Evans outside a property with a bloody and swollen face. He had been hit in the face with a TV tray by 51-year-old Charmaine Magee during an argument when she thought he had been talking to another woman.
According to the report, Charmaine Magee then locked herself in her bedroom but Cornell Evans kicked the door down before calling the Police. Magee told the police that Evans poured Bleach and Vinegar into her aquarium, and the bottles were present on the floor when they arrived. Police say all fish in the fish tank were laying upside down motionless at the bottom of the tank and the turtles were swimming franticly in their tank as if something was wrong. Police also noted that the wires of the fish tank had been moved as if someone moved them to pour something in and that the house smelled of Bleach.
Cornell Evans is clearly no seasoned fishkeeper, as with Bleach being alkaline and Vinegar being acid, they do cancel each other out to a degree, but the Bleach on its own would have been enough to be fatal. Charmaine Magee was arrested and pled not guilty to domestic violence.
