#LFSSaturday was the brainchild of the late Jake Adams, designed to spotlight the importance of local fish stores (LFS) in the aquarium hobby. Since most LFS fall into the “small business” category, it made perfect sense to celebrate them on the Saturday after Black Friday. While holiday sales have become less defined – spanning the entire month of November as a “Black Friday Sale” – Jake’s vision was simple: dedicate one day to intentionally support our local fish stores.
Whether you purchase coral, fish, dry goods, or a mix of everything, the focus is on giving back to these cornerstone shops. Before the rise of internet forums and the spread of misinformation on social media, local fish stores were one of the few places hobbyists could gather, trade stories, and share knowledge. While no one is suggesting we turn back the clock, it’s essential to remember our roots.
LFS owners often pour their hearts and souls into their businesses, making them the true backbone of this hobby. If you missed #LFSSaturday this year, take this as your sign to visit your local store. Spend a little, or a lot, and invest in the hobby we all love!
