ATB’s new Elegance 200 short and fat double cone skimmer

ATB’s new Elegance 200 is a short double cone skimmer that has design features that we haven’t seen before. The Elegance 200 is a full cone protein skimmer that should be used internally only. The skimmer has a height of 50cm (19.68″) and takes a footprint up of around 300 x 400mm (11.81″ x 15.74″), the elegance 200 gets access to the mini airstar 900 which will pump in around 900 lph of air and around 1500 lph of water while eating up 36 watts. Another feature that you might have noticed is this new cone skimmer has a double bubble plate as well as a automatic shut off system to prevent overflows. The Elegance 200 has been undergoing testing for the past 3 months and when the cone skimmer is available should be able to handle tanks up to 1200 liters and cost around 700 euro ($940). Contact your favorite ATB dealer about placing a pre-order.

What an odd looking skimmer. Who buys these things, besides the über-rich? I love the look of these high-end skimmers, but good god are they over-priced.

Chase, funny you should ask. The base model will come in at $499 but if you want the optional dimmable Cree XP-G LEDs with the 40 degree optics it jumps to $4500.

Hehe, I agree with the above comments. Keep in mind however that perceived “innovation” hype keeps these companies from struggling.

Euro-Reef suffered because of (a waffling business model and) no consumer perception of innovation. Too bad that alloy mesh wheel never panned out…

I also have very high respect for H&S and their stalwart designs, thinking that they are every bit as good as these cones at extracting DOCs, but I doubt that Fins sell nearly as many a110 and a150 skimmers anymore with all the sub-$300 cone skimmers people are buying now. Used H&S skimmers are being sold for a lot less than they used to…
