Digital Aquatics finally releasing myReef 2.0

144

Digital Aquatics is finally releasing its controller software myReef 2.0. Although a long time has passed since we first broke the news of an Alpha version of Digital Aquatics myReef 2.0 the final product is moving into Beta and shortly into full-on final release mode. Some of the myReef 2.0 features include programming and setup via the interface, diagnostics and troubleshooting, support and firmware updates. The final version of myReef 2.0 is expected shortly after a trial release of the upcoming firmware 2.0 release. For more info be sure to check out the Digital Aquatics website. While we have been waiting for the Digital Aquatics software and the release of the new firmware for well over a year, we are hoping the added time provides the user base with a vastly improved and stable interface and firmware to tap into some great features of the RKL and RKE.

I guess I am in the I’m happy camp, My RKE works perfect camp. I have a 180 Gallon aquarium and this controller does every thing I need it to do and then some.

This is actually my second controller I had one from another company but it could not handle the setup I have.

I have yet to play with myReef since I found that the menus on the head unit are so simple to navigate it would take more time for me to use the software.

I have the NET module so if I really want to look at trends it has the data right there for me.

So I guess when myReef does come out I’ll take a look at it but in the end I can probably do it in the menus faster.

On the bright side I just ordered another $400 of goodies from them last week so I can expand my system even more.

I really like that when I add another Tank I just add another module or two to control it.

I ordered up the Hub module so now I can have the system stay up and e-mailing me when the power goes out, and a switch module so I can simplify come of the functions by just flipping a switch.

I have never understood the bad reviews, they (DA) have always been super nice to me and my stuff works fine, every time I cal them they are more than helpful to me.

Have fun all, and enjoy your Aquariums.

Well… It looks like they just deleted every post in the MyReef subforum on their support boards. They only left up two of their stickies.

I can’t believe they just deleted an entire subforum. They deleted pages of threads and hundreds of posts that had some useful information in them. I wonder why they would do that? Maybe they don’t want other potential customers to see all the trouble it took to get myReef running up to this point?

At the end of the day it’s a support forum that we work to keep current and helpful. Posts/threads on a beta software that’s not supported or relevant going forward is a huge disservice to those that are not as computer as you may be – in fact we’ve shown it’s extremely confusing to people. Getting a high volume of emails and calls about outdated information is both costly and can diametrically affect the support and service for customers with issues. It is in NO WAY an attempt to hide or mislead but merely allows us to offer better service to the customers we greatly value! The sheer volume of modifications and bug fixes rendered 99% of posts irrelevant. Again I’m not sure how cleaning up outdated info just prior to the full release of a new product is in any way a “deceivingly disingenuine action”.

Ed. we’re happy to offer you (or anyone for that matter) the following:
If there are any relevant posts that you can remember and feel should be moved back into the current forum area we’re happy to do that on a case by case basis if they retain intrinsic value to the “release” version of myReef 2.0. Please feel free to PM us the info on the forum and we’ll address that!

Look the bright side..at least they offered 2 years warranty on the headunit. Noone else has. Also their $99 starter price is great for someone that just want to get their feet wet…

Ac jr cost like what?? lol

AC jr also came with an additional 4 outlets and a ph probe, the $99 RK Lite is just 4 outlets. The RK Lite package that is comparable to the ACjr is also about the same price.

But I agree, for basic control and a modular controller, the RK Lite is tough to beat-but it is limited. On more advanced programming, features, and overall value out of box, the Apex wins hands down.

Notice how all the negative threads come
in around the same day and time.

I firmly believe it is the same person posting.
(now that I said that watch he will split them up)

I find it odd that a “Former RKE User” is
still following the RKE product so closely.

If you are a former user than you must really have no
life at all to be that consumed by a piece of hardware.

I mean come on now, get out of your moms
basement and go get a girlfriend or something.

As for the rest of the post really now, do you
really believe your immaturity in trashing a
company is really making a difference.

Most adults will just see it for what it really is a little
child crying and complaining that he did not get his way.

If it is such a problem why don’t you do what any real
adult would do and just sell it and go on to something else.

Wasting your time crying about it is not going to
make it better, it just makes you look like a child.

Have fun, I’m off to do a water change,
fill my Calcium Reactor, and change my bulbs.

I will address this directly to DA.

I am a very long time customer of
yours and I man a happy customer.

DA has been great to me, and I have never had
any bad experiences, but than again I am realistic
in my understanding of what your product is.

You have a Controller for Reefers from Reefers.
I say that because it is not a simple plug and play
toy it requires some though and effort to use.
That is it’s shining point. if I wanted a plug and play
toy I would have got one. I wanted a Real Controller
for my tank. It amazes me how people can put a
tank together but can’t figure out a simple controller.

My only fear is that in an effort to dumb it down for
the plug and play crowd you will take away the
flexibility that we now have come to love.

I understand wanting to please everyone but some people can’t be pleased no matter what you do.

    Thank you.

Ahhh…the old moms basement and no girlfriend jokes…really? Internet insults 101, try something original, Balls. Now all these messages are written by one person? Ha!

People are angry at DA for not following through on promises. It is far from a handful of people , just look on any message board….DA has become a joke.

I hate to tell you Balls, but of the three major controllers out there, DA is the furthest from the “Real Controller” you wanted. The people complaining about DA *never* had a problem figuring the controller out, they simply cannot stand the laughably slow rollout time for the most basic features that the others have had for years.

Any customer, both current and former, has a right to voice their opinion on products. Stop acting like only positive comments like yours are relevant.

    Thank You DA!

I guess you can teach an old dog a new trick. After seeing all the fuss about myReef 2.0 I had to try it. I downloaded it and upgraded my system (along with adding my new modules, etc). Everything upgraded without a hitch and my questions were quickly answered on the support forum (Everyone on the forum was a great help).

I’ll have to say it sure was simple doing the upgrade and the programming was very quick and easy (I used the new myReef instead of the head unit). I may have to change my ways and use the New way now (using the software) from now on.

I was happy to see the added features as well. So I have to say I was Happy before, but now I’m Very Happy Indeed.

Again Thank You DA for the early Christmas present.

I own a RKE system having read through this post i am starting to wonder where DA’s road map will be. Will they listen to the post in this forum and make a better product or will they continue this path and eventually to loosing other competitors?
I downloaded the iReef app for the iphone and just realized that it is not a supported software, it was created by a customer. DA it would be nice if you can release a software that you created for your product.
In DA’s defense i would say maybe i am the LUCKY one to own their product that works for what I need it to do. But as the tank matures more features are expected from this product, web accessibility to monitor and manage the aquarium from anywhere in the world. I have called Tech Support with 90% success of speaking to a live person, 5% of the time is through email and i get a response within a few hours, the rest is through the forum.
I just downloaded the Myreef 2.0 software and will try to make it work, but i have to update all the firmware on each device i wish there’s a way to leave the modules plug in and update them one at a time, maybe DA can answer that if not well time to bust out the windows xp laptop and manually update each module.

Owning all controllers I have to say that DA’s controller was the worst (support, programming, etc.), pros (having a rainbow display….)

PIII being expensive with some cons (bulky, expensive, lacks some simple things Apex already has) and pros (hardware variety, support),

Apex being about in the middle with a lot of pros (price, support, programming language) and a few cons (head unit issues).

Hey, Balls came back! Your post makes no sense whatsover-but you already knew that, didn’t you?

I really seem to have perturbed you with my comments on your controller. You jst cannot seem to stop coming here and making idiotic comments towards me. You are embarassing yourself. I guess you just cannot stand that there are alot of people that have negative reviews of DA and their Mickey Mouse controllers. If DA keeps up their laughably slow releases and remain so far behind the competition as they have….I would not be the least bit surprised if they went the way of IceCap.

Look at all the forums when anyone asks what controller to get or which most people like…it is unanimously the Apex, with a handful of people parroting that the RK Lite is a great value. I know DA has felt a serious sting in sales since Neptune released the Apex, there is no wonder why.

Now can we all take bets on how long it will be before this pathetic company releases the Tunze control that it announced September 2009? Im going to say Spring 2011- but we all know DA would make it June 20th since it would technically still be spring! What an effen joke!

Well, I am mostly going to bow out of this argument, as I mostly feel the point is proven. I wanted to make a few closing points.

Balls, I have posted in this comment section as “Former RKE user” except for one time when I posted as “An Adult….” which was a play on the words you put in your post above it. Believe whatever you would like, but the other posters here are other people. Look around on many forums and you will see multitudes of disappointed DA customers. There is no need to make up dissappointed customers when they are already there.

Also, thanks for the resorts to personal attacks. Basic rules of debating say you have lost already when you divert to this method. But, for the record I don’t live in my mothers basement, and I do have a girlfriend. haha. Funny statement though, however trite it is these days. I am far from any financial troubles – being considerably wealthy by most standards, educated on a graduate level, and happy with my position in life. I would say I have been quite successful on both a social and economic level and have had many opportunities others only dream of. I wish you the same, as I do not feel the need to make personal comments directed at your personal circumstances.

Anyway. Glad to see DA finally got this out, late as usual. While I hope that DA catches up to Neptune, if history tells us anything this probably will not ever happen. The RKE is still an OK product, but for the same amount of money (or less) you can get a better product, and better customer service. To each his own as for his or her choice.

    Good luck future buyers!
