The Royal Exclusiv RD3 Speedy is arguably one of the most uncompromising water pumps ever built for the aquarium and now it’s available in a staggering 200 watt model. The RD3 Speedy first became available in a 65 and an 80 watt model that push a ridiculous amount of water volume with incredible pressure but if you think that was impressive, the 200 watt RD3 speedy pump blows them out of the water.
The RD3 Speedy series of controllable water pumps from Royal Exclusiv are completely German-made from the electronics to the software, to the injection-molded tooling – it’s all “in Deutschland gemacht”. This beast of a water pump is packing more titanium than a cruise missile with all titanium screws, and both the rotor and stator being completely covered in titanium for no possibility of corrosion to the brushless DC motor.
The maximum power draw for the Royal Exclusiv RD3 Speedy is 230 watts at which point this beast is pumping 19,000 liters (5,000 gallons) per hour with a maximum head pressure of seven meters (23 feet). Even when it is ran at 50 watts the RD3 Speedy 200w is still able to pump 11,000 liters (2,900 gallons) of water per hour making this pump extremely well suited to demanding closed loop applications.
The only comparable pump to the RD3 Speedy 200w is the Venotec Abyzz A200 which doesn’t quite match the specs, pumping up to 14,000 lph and costs around 1,300€ ($1766) while Royal Exclusiv is going for a target price of 995€ ($1352). For that kind of coin you expect the RD3 Speedy 200w to do it all and indeed the North American version will be fitted with “standard” non-metric fittings and the controller has 0-10v input for external control via popular aquarium controllers.
