Several thousand feet below the oceans surface researchers have discovered a new deep water coral and sponge beds. The new corals and sponges were collected for DNA analysis 3,000 to 6,000 feet in the ocean. They were found in the “Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument by the Pisces V submersible operated by the Hawaii Undersea Research Laboratory (HURL).” The monument is said to protect a vast array of species and that new ones will be discovered again. We don’t think this coral will be available for trade in the aquarium hobby any time soon.
