Hot on the heels of the announcement of their new El Presidente, IceCap has released a PDF which takes a whole page to describe why the classic IceCap ballast heat sink is no longer needed and that it will no longer be included with 660s or 430s. Apparently modern circuitry runs cool enought that the legendary icecap ballast no longer requires this accessory in order to remain at an optimally cool temperature. Although we are sure that this is the case we still like to keep our electronics cooler than recomended and you can bet your caudal fin we’ll be snaking every spare heat sink we see for our aging collections of Icecap ballasts. Let’s just hope that this new material cut will translate into a slight reduction in the cost of the classic ballasts.
