The aquaFX LED lighting system which we reported on a few months ago has come one step closer to availability with some pricing, release dates and more details about what this light actually is. The basic kit for this LED system includes a 24″ light tube containing the LEDs, a controller, power supply and remote control for a list price of £179.99 or about US$280. The single light included with the kit will pump out up to 20 watts of bright white light and another light tube can be added to the kit for an additional £99/$160. The color changing feature may be gimmicky to some but seeing as there are many aquarium hobbyists who are color vision impaired, this system may be a simple solution for some to color correct the appearance of their tank. Furthermore, this light could be very useful for frag vendors to show how their new LE coral will look under a range of colors at the touch of a button. The units are currently listed to be available to British and European citizens for a mid-january release date and we’ll keep our ears to the ground on when these units will be available stateside.
