There is a new line of skimmers that will go on sale shortly here in the US. This line named Hurricone is supposed to be a step up from the Reef Octopus standard line, or so everyone says. There will be 5 categories in all and we have specs on just 2 of those categories which all use some version of a askool 1500 pump with a custom machined volute and pinwheel. Unlike the normal line of Reef Octopus which uses a meshwheel, these pumps will use a pinwheel which has peaked our interest very much. Category 1 internal which is designed for tanks up to 200 gallons carries a footprint of 14″x14″ and is 24.5″ tall while the body is 8″ and the neck is 5″ and a rumored price is said to be $650. Meanwhile category 2 Internal is great for tanks up to 300-325 gallons. The footprint is 13″x16″ and you’ll need about 27″ of head space. The body is 10″ while the neck is 6″. Rumored price is $730. Last up is the cat 2 external which will run tanks up to 400 gallons. The footprint is 17″x16″ being 27″ tall and the body is 10″ wide and the neck is 6″. The price is said to hit around $830. These will begin shipping in mid-February and we are assuming that additional skimmer categories 3-5 will be released shortly.
Update: They are called Hurricone, not Hurricane, thanks Mike!
