Here’s a fresh load of details straight from the master acrylicsmith himself. As we first reported several days ago, the fabled Bubble King Cone skimmer is real and it will soon be for sale in the United States. The cone skimmer will be made by RE but it will be marketed under the Vertex brand. The RE-Vertex cone skimmer will be made in four models with maximum diameters from 170 mm to 310 mm (6.5-12 inches). The first batch of the Exclusiv skimmers should be hitting the states in the coming weeks and they will be available for sale, or at least pre-order very soon. Whereas Royal-Exclusiv has usually aimed for the hot-rod sector of the marine aquarium equipment market, by partnering with Vertex it appears that this time Klaus is ready to penetrate the more mainstream aquarium market. Seeing that the RE-Vertex Cone is aiming to be a little more affordable than traditional BK branded gear, the exciting Automatic-Skimmer features will not ship with the RE-Vertex skimmers. Stay tuned to Reef Builders for updates about this exciting new product.
Update: Premium Aquatics released more specifics on the imminent availability of this skimmer. The first model to be released will be the Alpha 250, a 23″ tall seamless cone body which will have a base of 10″ in diameter tapering to a neck of 6 ” in diameter. The fully modular skoner will be driven by a Red Dragon Mini pump clocking at 38 watts and 1500 lph (of air we presume). The best part? The introductory price from PA will be $999 shipped for preorders which begin tomorrow. Clearly, in better economic times this kind of kit of would be much more expensive but if this aggressive pricing is the result of financialy challenging times, we’ll take it.
