Another day, another cone skimmer. This one is made by a company called Skimz which produces quite a lot of reef aquarium equipment. There are two models in Skimz new Kone line, the SK1 and SK2. The SK1 cone skimmer is powered by the popular aquabee 2000 pump running a needlewheel impeller; the pump uses 20 watts while able to draw 450 lph. Skimz is no stranger in using the bubble plate and cone design to reduce turbulence, bubble bursting and surface agitation. The SK2 is using the more powerful aquabee 5000 pump which should take care of an aquarium up to 1500 liters (400 gallons) under normal stocking. With these new cone skimmers you’ll need to provide an input pump or gravity feed to the skimmer bodies but that is usually true with any larger skimmer designs. The SK2 has a retail of around $1034 while the smaller SK1 retails in the range of $710 being limited to the Asian markets.
