The Aztech pyramid skimmer from CPR is a novel departure from the typical cone protein skimmer. The Aztech uses a pyramidal shape to increase the volume of air and water mixing and coupled with a quality needle wheel water pump, this new pyramid skimmer is definitely worthy of consideration for serious protein skimming applications. The current Alpha level units being demoed at IMAC West are currently being run by a Gen X water pump but CPR is considering equipping some units with Sicce water pumps and offering consumers the option to choose the value and performance minded water pumps. The in-sump design has a noticeably large footprint but with the well designed bubble-reducing system, the functionality of the Aztech is well worth the bulk. The approximate retail pricing will likely end up in the $500 neighborhood with the higher performance Sicce equipped models commanding up to a $100 premium. The base model will probably start trickling out in 60-90 days with the Sicce-equipped model being release a little while later.
