There are red margin fairy wrasses and then there are Fiji hand selected supermale Cirrhilabrus rubrimarginatus wrasses from Quality Marine. Maybe it was the LEDs or perhaps it was the Long Beach water but something about this supermale red Margin fairy wrasse singlehandedly redeemed the entire species as worthy of desire. Many red Margin fairy wrasses can be pale, small or just otherwise dull aside from the name sake red margins but this Fiji stud had a lot more going for him: Red spotted blue purple flanks, yellow facial markings, black pelvics and rainbow of color on all the other fins. Don’t expect your store-bought Rubies to always look like this but just know that with a little home grown conditioning including good water quality and a balanced diet, you too can have a show stopping fish. Or you could ask your LFS to call Quality Marine and get you one. Either way, when we viewed this specimen in person, all other wrasses ceased to exist.
