The new Reef Illuminations light fixture from IceCap, which we first reported on last Saturday, is a decent looker in person. The actinic LED assist is a neat trick which will likely set this fixture apart from many of the other light fixtures. The T5-sized LED lamps are 24 watts per 4 feet and although they aren’t likely to be a “nutritious” form of lighting, we imagine that there will still be a significant contribution to the overall appearance of the aquarium; if nothing else those actinic LED strips should last many, many years while saving power and producing an awesome form of a twilight and dusk period. The fixtures are only a little bit blocky in appearance but with built-in electronic ballasts, mounting “feet” for setting the light on the tank and some built in hanging functionality. We still see the Reef Illuminations as becoming a popular light fixture in an increasingly crowded lighting market.
