Ricordea Shrimp are a newly collected Periclemenes species from Southern Florida reefs which may be new to science. Our pals over at Coral Morphologic observed and collected this species living in Ricordea species corallimorphs. The diminutive discovery ranges in size from 8-12mm, or well under half an inch, and their translucent bodies almost make them disappear against their Ricordea hosts. Coral Morphomagic’s Ricordea shrimp could be a very exciting addition to the ever expanding nano and pico reef aquaroiums out there and we imagine that a cluster of these guys on as single large Ricordea polyp could be a micro-ecosystem unto it’s own. Don’t expect Coral Morpholicious to start shipping these tiny tykes any time soon as the first few specimens are being sent to taxonomists for review of whether this is a new species. Anyone have suggestions for the species name of this potential new Periclemenes?
