The banded angelfish, Apolemichthys arcuatus, is one of the most highly sought after marine angelfish for the home aquarium and especially so for the juveniles. This video from Robert Lower was just uploaded to the 808fishman channel on youtube, showing the in-situ capture of a juvenile banded angelfish which we presume occured at a great depth recorded to be 192 feet.
Not sure what’s more amazing: that the diver makes the two handed net capture appear so easy or that there is a huge colony of Montipora capitata growing well and large at such a profound depth. There is a strong probability that this juvenile specimen of Apolemichthys arcuatus will end up for sale in Japan, where the juvenile banded angelfish are in very high demand and can fetch upwards of $2000 for the smallest specimens.
