Simon Garratt might be one of the few British Reefers we know, but he’s still one of our favorite reefers. Si gave a great keynote presentation at IMAC West where he demonstrated that he is a very sensible hobbyist who is always looking to explain the most simple observations while simultaneously pushing the envelope. We are pleased to hear that Simon Garratt will soon be sleeping, eating and dreaming about skimmate over at D-D Aquarium Solutions. It is refreshing to see one of our own joining such a reputable product line. His statement is below:
After being involved in the marine hobby for the last 25yrs or so, I’ve seen a lot of products come and go, some good, some great, some average and some downright illogical and plain rough. Way back around 2001 I was following the exploits of the venerable Andy Hipkiss over here in the Uk, and it was Andy who introduced me to the Deltec product range, specifically the AP850 which was new out around that time. That skimmer basically made me re-evaluate the hobby, its potential on a personal level, and what you should expect from a product. So to this day I’ve always had a passion for the Deltec range right up to the current TC and SC ranges, plus other products from D-D The Aquarium Solution. There are just some companies that excel at what they do, which is why I was both flattered and extremely enthusiastic when David contacted me and asked me to join the team. D-D have always shown a level of quality and innovativeness with their products that is difficult to match, and the teams passion is never ending. These are qualities that I look for in a product and company, so it wasn’t a difficult choice to make to be honest.As well as my background in sales, and design engineering, David and Stuart also wanted someone with hands on knowledge and a proven track history in actually keeping and designing successful reef systems, so its my full intention to bring all of that to the table wherever possible. Coming up with an idea is one thing. But actually making it, and slotting it into the methodology and biology of a closed reef system for the every day reef keeper in a logical and easy to use manner is another thing altogether, So what is my role at D-D The Aquarium Solution you might ask?. well I’ll be flitting about the Southwest of England helping our customers on a daily basis, and working with Stuart Bertram on international sales for Europe and the USA, plus helping out with technical advice relating to product design, and offering support for end users, so all in all a busy schedule and a future I’m very excited about.Regards, Simon Garratt.
