NeoMarine Kalibrate is a new saltwater mix which includes everything but the Sodium Choride. NaCl makes up close to 80% of the dissolved material in natural seawater so when aquarium salt is shipped around, a significant amount of the cost comes from shipping Sodium Chloride which is widely available in bulk around the country for other applications. With that information in mind the chemists at Brightwell Aquatics had the idea to develop a saltwater mix which includes all the ingredients of natural seawater except for the widely available NaCl. The mix is called Kalibrate because the saltwater power user will be able to add only as much of NeoMarine Kalibrate to reach a desired Magnesium, Calcium and Alkalinity levels for their desired application. Ideally, someone who is raising fish or soft corals will be using much less NeoMarine Kalibrate per volume than someone who is intensively growing stony corals. Kalibrate is labeled as a ‘Salt Pre-Mix’ which seems a little confusing to us since when mixing a solution, normally you would add the largest constituent prior to anything else and like the ESV B-Ionic Seawater you would dissolve the NaCl prior to anything else, making a product like Kalibrate more technically a ‘post-mix’. Regardless of their naming convention, Kalibrate will be available in a 5 gallon pail and 60 gallon drum which will prepare 450 and 6000 gallons of natural seawater once you have already sourced the Sodium Chloride. Details on pricing and availability to follow soon.
