The 250 watt Sander Lumina heavy duty spotlight is an interesting brute-force design approach at producing a powerful light for aquaculture and public aquariums. Don’t misread us here, the Sander Lumina is not a 250 watt replacement but a high power LED spotlight which straight up throws out 250 watts of LED produced photons. Although we didnt get a chance to ask Sander reps about the LEDs within the Lumina, based on Q5 binning of Cree XR-E with 25 LEDs running at a maximum of 10 watts each. In all honesty we would expect nothing less from Sander, the world leader in manufacturing and designing industrial scale protein skimmers. The heavy duty design of Sander foam fractionators is reflected in the cold, stainless steel enclosure of the Lumina which makes it resistant to corrosion from saltwater exposure. The high capacity DC fan actively cools the substantial enclosed heatsink which is an absolute must if the Lumina is to perform for the rated 50,000 hours. If all these horsepower features weren’t enough, the Sander Lumina is also completely controllable so you can ease the flow of photons cautiously over unsuspecting displays. You can expect the Sander Lumina spotlight to cost more, and be worth more than the sum of it’s heavy duty parts when pricing and availability is announced. More pics after break.
