The Reef Scientific pre-sifted activated carbon and granular ferric oxide (GFO) medias from Midland Reefs are evidence that sometimes the simplest ideas can also be some of the best. Most of us are familiar with that extra step between us and replacing our media of choice that involves rinsing off the mdeia to remove dust before putting it into the aquarium. While visiting the Midland Reefs InterZoo booth we were skeptical to hear that they were pitching their Reef Scientific media principally as being very clean. After giving it some thought, the dread of carbon of GFO clouds in aquarium water made us want to put these jars of pelletized media to further scrutiny. We poured a small amount of each of the GFO and carbon medias onto a paper towel, rolled it around in the towel and then inspected for the inevitable smudge marks. To our amazement, the towels could not have been any more spotless than if we had pulled a new one off the roll. We speak for ourselves when we say we particularly like the idea of replacing carbon and GFO more frequently since we won’t have to be rinsing it off every time the tank needs a little polish.
Pre-sifted carbon and GFO from Reef Scientific are clean, easier to use media
