Super Reef Octopus recently released a pair of media reactors sporting the orangish-red acrylic we’ve seen recently in other SRO products coming out on the market. The two reactors both measure in at 20 inches tall with either a 2.5- (MR-100) and 3.5-inch (MR-200) diameter to hold plenty of media. For filtration the Super Reef Octopus media reactors sport a cone strainer on both the inlet and outlet sides but without sponges or another finer media stop-blocks, these reactors will probably be best served using only courser-grade media with finer products like granular ferric oxide (GFO) floating right through the strainers and into the system. These reactors appear pretty beefy but won’t win any beauty contests. The top access to the media looks to be a modified Schedule 40 PVC union adding some unwelcome bulk and limiting easy access for hands and larger cleaning objects. From initial appearances, these look sturdy and functional for certain types of media but the additional height of the union lid and reduced access to the inside could be pitfalls to this unit. The MR-100 retails for $99.00 USD and MR-200 for $110.00 USD through Reef Specialty.
