The following is a guest contribution from Karl Vankersschaever, owner of Mare Nostrum and a passionate European reef aquarium hobbyist.
Last friday, Frantisek Floder from coral-shop was invited to the Gent Aquarium club. He gave a lecture about reefkeeping in general and the problems with possible solutions. This meeting was attended by many enthusiastic reef keepers from all over Belgium. The next day Anton Burian (ATB) and Werner Swoboda (zoo-swoboda) joined us on a trip around Belgium. First we visited Luc “Jawsee” Loyen’s really magnificant 3 m tank. The complete system (with frag tanks) is around 4000L. Illuminated by 400 watt HQI lamps in combination with T5 – mostly white.
The skimmer is an ATB Super Cone with two Airstar pumps, pushing 10.000L/h trough the skimmer. Afterwords we passed by a friend of Luc who also had a really magnificent tank. On the way back we stopped at Coralpoint, A new Belgian seawater shop that is due to open next weekend. So you see, there are a lot of nice things are going on in the Belgium reef aquarium hobby and more pictures of the event when you continue reading.
