The reef tank of Yoon Yeo Kwang is an amazing reef aquarium set up which deserves to be called award winning. The third Dream Tank of the Quarter chosen by the ZEOvit forum a real stand out tank and although we knew the ZDTOQ would be SPS dominated, the Acropora that color this modest sized reefscape look really robust and healthy with balanced colors and great growth forms. ZEOvit tanks can sometimes suffer from over-paled, crooked and poorly formed calcite looking coral skeletons but it is apparent that Yoon has struck a great balance of parameters and nutrients to keep his coral looking healthy and natural. At less than four feet long, the dual penductor returns and the stream pump are more than enough to produce some very strong and fast flow speeds required by fast growing SPS corals. Although we love our LEDs there is no denying that the dual 250 watt radium halides on this tank are doing a great job of providing PAR and color to Yoon’s corals. At first it appeared like the reefscape was on a lifted platform with the whole bottom half of the reef going to waste but Yoon has carefully inserted a variety of classic LPS corals including several Euphyllia corals (hammer and frogspawn), a nice green bubble coral and a few odd candy, green star and leather corals. You could call this an SPS reef tank but we believe Yoon has inserted enough LPS and soft corals to qualify this reef as a mixed coral community, something which is hard to do. Finally, the tank looks very clean in presentation and we wouldn’t be surprised if Yoon’s reef tank looked this presentable day in and day out. Follow the break for a couple mroe shots on how Yoon has made creatively inserted corals on the sides of this three-sided reef tank but be sure to visit the post on the 3rd DTOQ over at the ZEOvit forum. Hat tip to the Zeocrew for selecting and honoring a truly deserving reef tank and congratulations to Yoon Yeo Kwang on a job well done.
Update: It’s come to our attention that these images of Yoon’s tank are somewhat dated and the reefscape has been somewhat changed around. To see the full updated specs on the tank with lots of pics of the new arrangement, there’s a great post on SPSholic with the whole run down.
