The Alpha Kone protein skimmers from Vertex Aquaristik was one of the most popular cone protein skimmers launched this time last year. The Omega Kone is the big brother to the Alpha Kone series, offering a similar style of design and construction but with the added performance of a recirculating design. The Omega Kone is very similar to the Alpah Kone but it has a conical body down to the diffuser plate, at which point the design of the base switches up the accomodate the intake of the Red Dragon mini water pump. Liek the upgraded Alpha Kone, the Omega Kone also includes a thermoplastic body which is one millimeter thicker, the same volute and diffuser plate it’s not clear how the omega will manage the same adjustment of air to water intake ratio. The prototype skimmer pictured above appears to be the Omega Kone 170, using the same cone body as the Alpha Kone 170 except that it is now stacked on top of the recirculating diffuser plate assembly. We do not yet know when these higher performance cone skimers will become available, perhaps we’ll see some more at MACNA 2010, but for now these pics give us a hint of the direction that Vertex is taking the Omega Kone series. More after the break.
