Lookout waterproof power strip because the USB-controlled Power USB is here to challenge your dominance as the coolest power strip in town. Like a normal power strip the Power USB plugs directly into the wall but an additional USB cable plugs into your computer waiting for commands for independent control of each of the four universal outlets. Presumably the Power USB could communicate with your computer to turn on the printer, for that odd occasion when you actually need a physical document, but we think the Power USB will also be an awesome tool for aquarists. In addition to having a graphically controlled timer on your computer’s screen, the Power USB could also be used as a gyre flow timer, alternating the flow of your closed loop water pumps or turning on a fan during the hot parts of the day. With very little information on the software, and no word on pricing, it’s hard to say what aquarium capabilities we’ll be able to shoe horn from the Power USB. At the very least the Power USB could be the ultimate aquarium timer and at most it could replace entry level aquarium controllers altogether. Now if we could just get a USB controlled waterproof power strip we’d be in power strip heaven. Look for it in August.
