In the second part of last weekend’s Southern California tour we made it up to Vivid Aquariums, a Reef Builders sponsor operating in Thousand Oaks Canoga Park, North of L.A. The reputation that Vivid Aquariums has earned has preceded them for the last couple of years and the neon colored corals were abundantly represented throughout the shop. Many of the corals are so bright we might dare to say that the display looked borderline gaudy as an aquascape, but on the whole it was just amazing to see these brightly colored corals as frags and colonies. As far as chalices go, the stunning saucer above is by and large the flagship of the LE corals in the house and it is called the “pink boobies” Original Vivid Echinophyllia. many frags of this and other chalices were available for sale, pre-mounted in the show tank or the for sale tanks. While we were in, Vivid was in the midst of adding enough tanks to nearly double their coral holding capacity, at which point it will be hard for any retail store to match this nucleating point of collector corals. Big thanks to Vivid for letting us get all up in their coral village, burninating under the 1000 watters.
