We find it odd that the race for LED lights started at the top with everyone vying for having the best or brightest reef light. Companies are still aiming to grow mini reef corals with LEDs but now it seems like the LED makers have caught on to supplemental, accent, twilight and moonlight LED strips so that they can capitalize on all the reefers who already have reef lights and won’t be ready to switch any time soon. The Wingo LED strip is just the latest to take some medium output LEDs and make them available in a thin, striplight form factor. The Wingo LED immediately calls to mind the EcoXotic stunner LEDs but not quite as polished and with a lower density of LEDs.
Wingo sent us a couple review strips that are 40 inches long and aside from some 33 long tanks that are not yet set up, we don’t have any tanks that are long and shallow to try these on. We did get a chance to slap these over the 150 gallon fish tank for a little while and it definitely made the angelfish and damselfish colors pop like only LEDs can. The 40″ strip comes in a blue or a white with a power rating of just 15 watts for about $150. Wingo also makes these in 10, 29, 24, 30, 36 and 48″ lengths and although you won’t be growing your thousand dollar frag of Jason Crazy Fox Watermelon chalice at breakneck speeds, any retail operation or fish breeder could special order some of the white strips in special sizes to suit your needs.
