The Skimz KONE SK181 is the first protein skimmer in the company’s E-Series line of internal products. Earlier this month we brought you the external line of E-Series skimmers from this Singapore-based company and for those of you looking for an in-sump version, this sleek skimmer just might be up your alley. More details and images after the break.
What may be the most interesting feature of the skimmer is the design that allows the water to exit the skimmer body from the base instead of a traditional discharge tube boasting a nearly bubble free discharge into the sump. While drooling over examining the images, we could not discern the exact exit point of the water and are wondering if it discharges through one channel or a couple. The KONE SK181 also has a nifty micro-adjustable control valve we hope works as well as it looks. Another new feature on this unit is an adjustable air silencer managed by a thumb screw on top of the silencer.
Featuring the Skimz ES2800 needlewheel pump, the KONE SK181 is rated for aquariums from 200 to 1,200 liters (approx. 50 to 300 gallons). As for air draw, the KONE SK181 boasts an air intake of 780 l/h at 13 watts of power. The footprint of the skimmer is 206 x 206 x 550mm (approx 8 x 8 x 21.5 in.). The skimmer will run you $425 SGD (Singapore Dollars) or about $320 USD. The company will also be introducing larger internal skimmers in this line with the Skimz SK201 (for aquarium from 800 to 2,000l) and the Skimz SK251 (for aquarium from 1,000 to 3,000l).
