The Cubus Marina betta tank from Hagen may be designed for filter less betta keeping but this is one pico-sized, trimless glass aquarium that ought to appeal to a broader audience. For an estimated price of about $25, the Cubus Aquarium comes with an almost-lid and a small clip-on LED light which serves up just enough photons to see what you are looking at. The Cubus aquarium is 6 inches cubed (15cm^3) and it holds up to 0.9 gallons of water. The Cubus betta tank is not exciting in itself but it will have a wide national and global distribution which will put it within reach of even the most po-dunk fish stores.
This means that a whole slew of nano reefers who’ve lusted after small trimless aquariums from ADA and Mr. Aqua will probably be able to pick these up locally and we greatly look forward to seeing what kind of neat pico reefs the community can come up with. The marine aquarium trade is richer than it has ever been with nano fish, gobies and shrimp and even the smallest internal sponge filter would be more than enough filtration to keep this kind of tank going well with a marine ecosystem. Building a marine aquarium from such a small space should probably be restricted to experienced aquarists and we look forward to seeing what they come up with. Few more pics of the Cubus aquarium after the jump.
