Seeing Liopropoma africanum for the first time at the House of Fins SPLASH event last weekend was a big surprise, and a welcome one at that. It’s only a few months ago that the Africanum basslet started popping up in the South African and American reef scene and with all the other rare fish that HoF brought together for this event, the L. africanum was just a feather in their cap.
Like the other few specimens of Africanum basslet that have been caught for aquaria, the fish in Greenwich was of a decent size, and large enough to be expressing the features which makes this species unique from other Liopropoma basslets. As good as this basslet looked in it’s little cage, a few weeks or months in captivity in a medium sized, mellow reef tank setting ought to help this basslet get his colors really poppin. We hope this Africanum basslet goes to a good home.
