The Bongo Shrimp, Phyllognathia ceratophthalma, is a unique small specialist crustacean that is only occasionally discussed in the aquarium hobby. Related to the larger and more popular harlequin shrimp, the bongo shrimp also like to eat starfish but unlike the good card-carrying Asteroids that harlequin shrimp must eat, bongo shrimp prefer to consume Ophiuroids, brittle starfish that are small enough for it to immobilize. We’ve seen a handful of bongo shrimp in person but getting a look at them in a dark unlit corner of a wholesale tank is worlds apart from what this amazing video shows going between two ornately adorned bongo shrimp filmed in the muck of Lembeh.
