Coral Shop Organics test kit to measure dissolved organic matter (DOM) was recently released from the manufactor best known for its line of aquarium additives lines, test kits and now innovative digital dosing pumps. Organic test kits are nothing new but as you can see in the video, Coral Shop takes DOM testing to a new level. Although the lack of music and sheer length of the montage might make the video a bit tedious to sit through, it does a great job illustrating the high quality of the test kit.
The new Organics test kit from Coral Shop mainly measures DOM but to a lesser extent also particulate organic matter (POM) and some trace elements. Testing DOM can be useful as a way to get ahead of phosphate and nitrate build up and can be used to examine the efficiency of your protein skimmer and the amount of carbon used to remove dissolved organics from your reef system.
