Today is World Oceans Day, a worldwide celebration of our wonderful oceans, and what better way to celebrate than to adopt a piece of a reef. Our good friends at the Coral Restoration Foundation are offering you the chance to be a part of preserving reefs right here in the United State. Through the Coral Restoration Foundation’s Adopt-A-Coral program, you can adopt a new frag or a one-year-old coral frag that will be grown in CRFs offshore nursery and later transplanted to a local reef.
For $50 you can adopt either a staghorn or elkhorn “nobbin” frag. You will get your electronic certificate of adoption along with biannual picture and growth updates to share the progress of your coral all the while helping CRF and their goal to preserve and repopulate Florida’s damaged reefs. If you don’t want to wait for your nobbin to grow, for $100 you can get a one-year-old coral frag that has been relocated to one of CRFs restoration sites. You’ll get your certificate, a digital image of the coral in place and the GPS coordinates of you specific coral.
