The flathead perch, Rainfordia opercularis, is an extremely rare fish not only for its limited distribution but also because of its reclusive nature. The flat head and big eyes or Rainfordia are especially suited to swimming and living in tight crevices of the inner reef matrix, and we still have no idea how a few of these specimens have been captured so far. This Australian-caught Rainfordia is being offered by B-Box Marine for the low, low price of 698,000 Yen, or just over $8500 at today’s exchange rate. We’ve got a slight fascination with this pseudo-Liopropoma and for more information on the flathead perch see our previous coverage of Rainfordia opercularis.
