Pacific Sun just unveiled the new Pacific Sun Metis Hyperion LED aquarium light fixture we got wind of in February that is the first fixture to offer the latest Cree XM-L LEDs and UV LEDs. The powerful fixture includes eight controllable channels to dial in the exact color and intensity you wish with added functions for remote management. Whereas yesterday’s Full Spectrum edition EcoLamps KR93 has LEDs in seven different colors, the Metis Hyperion uses eight different kinds of LEDs, including ultraviolet in two wavelength peaks.
Coming in three sizes, the Pacific Sun Metis Hyperion is a rather robust light for aquariums starting our around 48 in. in length. Each light consists of a combination of LED panels that each have seven different colors of LEDs and two different types of UV-A diodes in the mix. Packing the punch of the Cree XM-L Cool White and Neutral White LEDs, color is controlled with the addition of Cree XT-E Royal Blue 450 nm LEDs along with blue, green, red and orange Cree XP-E LEDs. For late night viewing, the Metis Hyperion also features a moonlight channel.
On top of all the color control you can manage the lamp wirelessly via WiFi or BlueTooth or by cable via the Ethernet port. The Metis Hyperion also allows access and control from a web server allowing you the ability to control the fixture from any internet connection.
Pacific Sun is releasing the Metis Hyperion in three sizes — 850, 1250 and 1650mm (about 33 1/2, 50 and 65 in. respectively). The 850mm can easily cover a 48 in. long and 24 in. wide aquarium and has two of the LED panels inside, each rated at 140W of power. The 1250mm model has three and the 1650mm model has four LED panels each rated at 140W of power (420W and 560W of LED lighting per fixture).
Pricing starts at around $2,200 USD for the 850mm version (€1,600) and will begin shipping these on October 20. More details should follow on the Pacific Sun website.
