Long-time aquarist and well-known author Dana Riddle was recognized as the 17th MASNA Aquarist of the Year at this year’s MACNA Banquet Dinner. Dana’s acceptance speech, including remembrances of his recently passed father and the influence he had on Dana’s aquarium interests, concluded with an emotional, emphatic, and off-mic Japanese toast of BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI! that won’t soon be forgotten.
Having been involved in the selection process this year, I can confirm reports of stiff competition perhaps, but even more so, a very difficult choice to be made. While not personally familiar with Dana’s largely reef and coral-centric work (fish guys are too busy buried in fish!), it only took a bit of research to reveal massive long term contributions and involvement in advancing the science and art of keeping aquariums .
Everyone here at Reef Builders would like to extend our hearty congratulations to Dana for this well-earned recognition. BANZAI indeed!
