Salifert’s Coralline Aminoacids has been around for well over a decade so you would think that its amazing stony coral growing powers would be well known to all, but lots of veteran reefers still haven’t heard the good news. As far as we are aware, this amino acid supplement was the first to be available to reef aquarists and although many other companies have put together Aminoacid blends of their own, we still have yet to see the same kind of accelerated coral growth that comes from using Salifert’s Coraline Aminoacids.
The development of Salifert amino acid additive is partially based on a scientific paper called Biosynthesis of ‘essential’ amino acids by scleractinian corals authored by Drs. Lisa Fitzgerald and Allina Szmant which identified which amino acids could be synthesized by corals to meet all of their needs, only part of their needs, or could not be syntesized by the corals at all. It is beyond our scope to dissect that publication, but what we want to bring to your attention is that Salifert’s Coralline Aminoacids is like crack for stony corals.
SPS corals are especially responsive to additions of the Salifert CAA, with noticable growth increase response noticeable within a matter of days even in a tank where SPS corals are already thriving. What is most noticeable when using Salifert CAA is that the growth margins become wider/longer and therefore more colorful, an effect which is particularly attractive in Montipora and Acropora species. With Acros you can really see the response to Salifert CAA in the tips which not only grow much faster but also become much flatter, like really flat tipped, in a way which we have not seen in tanks not using Salifert CAA.
But don’t take our word for it, Salifert CAA is widely available and after just a few days of using it you will see a noticeable increase in the growth of stony corals, and particularly fast growing SPS corals. But hey maybe you don’t need/want your corals to grow faster, just saying.
