Any reef with an impressive aquascape, filled with healthy mature corals will catch our eye, and this Ukrainian reef is no different. The scape of the tank works especially well with the large stony corals inhabiting it, and we certainly love the color arrangement. Taka’s tank measures 170x60x63cm (67x24x25 in) which amounts to around 642 liters (or ~170 gallons). Lighting is provided by a DIY T5 fixture with ten 80w ATI T5 bulbs.
A Tunze 6105 and Tunze 6055 along with two MP40w’s provide most of the flow, with a Deltec 4040 (1000gph) serving as the return pump. A skimmer build by a local craftsman keeps the tank clean along with regular use of carbon and Purigen. A Calcium reactor also build by a local builder suffices the calcium demand. Tropic Marine salt is used for water changes and a wide array of Koral Zucht additives are added weekly including KZ Iodide Fluoride, KZ Amino Acid HC, KZ Sponge Power, and KZ Food7. Taka recently started experiementing with Zeostart2, Zeobac, and Coral Snow as well. The build thread can be found here, and a lot more pictures after the break, including a Trachyphyllia that is absolutely to die for.
