The Elos PS2000 needle wheel protein skimmer is the latest addition to the Elos line of skimmers replacing the NS2000 in the product catalogue. According to the hands-on preview at DaniReef.com, the Elos PS200 features a smaller Sicce PSK 1000 pump to do the air shredding, replacing the larger Eheim 1260 and venture on the old injection skimmer.
The new PS2000 is constructed almost entirely from finely crafted acrylic with the only PVC contained in the adjustable outlet. The Elos PS2000 also has a smaller footprint taking up around a 20 by 17cm (around 7.87 in. by 6.69 in.) spot in the sump and is 55.5 cm tall (around 22 in.) and 15cm in diameter (around 6 in.).
According to basic PSK 1000 data the Sicce pump has a max flow rate of 3,200 l/h, consumes 57 watts and maximum head of 2.6 meters with normal impeller. DaniReef.com does point out a disparity between this and the Elos information rating the pump on the PS2000 at consuming 22 watts.
Rated for tanks between 1,000 and 2,000 liters (around 264 to 528 US gallons), the Elos PS2000 retails for around €913 (approx. $1,178 USD). We look forward to seeing how this skimmer performs over the next few months and will make sure to check in for updates along the way.
For those of you interested, the smaller Elos PS1000 is available as well using a Sicce PSK 600 pump that is rated for around 500 to 1,000 liters (about 130-260 gallons). The Elos PS1000 runs €730.00 (around $944 USD).
