The mimic octopus ( Thaumoctopus mimicus) is one such species that has an uncanny ability to mimic other ocean creatures. Popular cartoon comic XKCD decided this was perfect for their next cartoon series. While the chart above is quite funny, there is a little truth up there. Additionally, this chart gives good reason why hobbyists shouldn’t try keeping a mimic octopus–you’ll never know what he will turn into.
