Although the aquascaping of this stunning reef of Carlinhos Moreno may be standard-issue, the beauty of this reef is still undeniable. Yes, the scape of this Brazilian reef borders on the “fruit stand look” but the dark shadows created by the overhang manage this tank to shift away from that doom. The color on the corals is phenomenal and we certainly appreciate the large colonies dominating the tank.
The display tank measures 140cm (55 in) x 100cm (40 in) x 70cm (28 in) which amounts to around 980 Liters or around 260 gallons, the system additionally consist of a 100cm x 50cm x 45cm display and a sump for a total system volume of around 2200 Liter (580 gallons).
The tank used to be lit by two Lumenarc HQI BLV 400w 14.000k bulbs along with four 54w Giesemann actinic bulb, but Carlinhos recently switched to 16 X T5 fluorescents instead preferring the additional color options. Water flow is provided by two VorTech MP40W and two Eheim 1262’s providing flow under the rocks, an additional Eheim 1262 serves as return.
Filtration is provided by Deltec AP702 skimmer plumbed on the return, a 36W UV is also ran. The display tank contains no sand, and the four RDSB canisters have recently been replaced by Sera Siporax ceramic rings.
The huge calcium demand is met by MRC Double Chamber Calcium Reactor along with Kalkwasser fed by a Liter Miter. The whole system is controlled by a Octopus 3000 controller. Keep reading for a lot more pictures of this awesome reef. Also be sure to checkout his build thread here.
