The Aqua Special NANO series protein skimmers may have the word nano attached to it but this Polish-built skimmer is rated for aquariums from 100 to 500 liters (26 to 132 US gallons). Using the standard features we like in skimmers — bubble diffuser, silencer, skimmate overflow guide and presumably some sort of way to adjust the water levels — the Aqua Special NANO 160 does look promising.
This Polski skimerzki measures in at (HxWxLxD) 365 x 176 x 305 x 160mm (around 14.5 x 7 x12 x 6.25 in) and is fitted with an AquaBee 2000/1 pump. With the Aquabee driving the skimmer, the Aqua Special NANO delivers 500l per hour (132 GPH) of air flow while pumping 1,000 to 2,000lph (264 to 528 GPH) of water flow at 16W of power draw. The NANO 160 will set you back 1,299 Zlaty or $400 USD.
While it is harder for us to see these products in North America, we are glad to see some reefing ingenuity coming from former Eastern Bloc countries. We are always pleased to see the global rise in reefkeeping entrepreneurship and ingenuity. Make sure you check out the video below of the skimmer in action.
