Penguins are birds, have wings but cannot fly, right? Well one aquarium in Tokyo is giving penguins the chance to fly — or at least appear to. The Sunshine Aquarium in the Ikebukuro area has a rooftop aqua ring that usually allows seals to swim circles above the crowd with the sky as a backdrop but for a short time, the ring will be hosting penguins for an evening ‘flight.’
According to the Sunshine Aquarium’s Facebook page the special penguin exhibit will take place at the aquarium for a limited period from now through September 2. During the period of the special exhibit, penguins will be swimming in the “Sunshine Aqua Ring” between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. each day. The ring is elevated 2.3 meters (around 7 1/2 feet) above the ground and as you can see from the photos, gives a pretty cool sense of the penguins flying above.
If anyone happens to be in the area, shoot some video and pass it our way!
